During President Xi Jinping's visit to Poland, ICBC signed with BGK a Memorandum of Understanding on setting up CEE Fund, under which BGK would invest EUR 300 million.
According to the Chinese Government's proposal on the Fourth China-CEEC Summit, ICBC intends to invest EUR 1 billion to establish CEE Finance Holding Corporation (hereinafter "CEE Finance Corporation"), which will then take the lead in incepting CEE Fund as well as other market-based funds. CEE Finance Corporation will raise funds from CEECs (or their authorized agencies) and other markets, with target investment markets at CEECs and other regions in line with common interests of China and CEECs. The investment will be aimed at interconnection infrastructure construction and international cooperation in industrial capacity under the “Belt and Road” framework.
A head of the Preparatory Team for CEE Finance Corporation said that ICBC has continued to boost internationalization in recent years and become an important participant in international economic and trade cooperation as well as “Belt and Road” construction. ICBC has so far set up Warsaw Branch in Poland, the first Chinese bank approved to operate in the country. The founding of CEE Finance Corporation is of great significance in promoting Sino-Poland economic and trade exchange as well as industrial cooperation. In the future, ICBC and BGK will leverage their strengths in network and resource to drive China-CEE economic, trade and industrial cooperation with CEE Fund as the platform, and support “Belt and Road” construction in common interests.
